Interview with Christian Author Dianna Mendez

Dianna Mendez

I am so excited to be interviewing a very great Christian friend Dianna Mendez. What a pleasure and an honor.

“Dianna, I want to thank you for allowing me to interview. You have been a great friend to me and so loyal and supportive.”
Dianna, tell me about yourself where were you born and explain the town etc. And where do you live now?”

“Debbie, I was born in a small town located in Northern Indiana. It was right in the middle of the Corn Belt and farming was the way of life for almost everyone in the county. Traveling two lane roads and having to navigate around farm tractors was a way of life. Traveling in any direction took you past rows of corn and soybeans, the staple of life. Today I live in South Florida and enjoy the sunshine. However, I do miss the seasons up north and occasionally the white snows of winter. “

“Dianna, tell me about your writing, why do you like it so much?”

“Debbie, I began writing as a young child of ten. I also loved to sketch. My mother found me outside in the early morning sun with my writing pad either scribbling away or drawing from nature. I found writing was a way to express myself and enjoyed putting words together to write short stories. In high school, I had a dedicated English teacher who encouraged me to write and taught me to love literature. She influenced my love of writing.”

“Dianna, where do you get your inspiration from?”
“Debbie, my inspiration comes from life observations. Like many writers, the simple every day happenings can lead to an article or blog. I also look at photographs for hub page article ideas. Who is my favorite author? I can’t really point out any single author. I have read so many books over the years. In fact, as a child I read every single book in the children’s department by the time I was eleven years old. Yes, I was a book worm.”
“Dianna what are your favorite books?”
“Debbie, some of my favorite books was Mary Poppins, Nancy Drew, Cherry Ames (an old nurse series) and bibliographies. I have always enjoyed reading Charles Dickens and C. S. Lewis writings. Lastly but not least, I am inspired by the many wonderful verse and tales of the Bible. The wisdom within the pages is so deep and I find they apply to daily living experiences.”
“Dianna, have you written any books? If you have, tell us all about it.”

“Debbie, currently, I am working on a book centering on romance and family relationships. It is a combination of science fiction and folk lore (If that is even a style of writing?). Here is a small excerpt:”

Chapter Three: Inside the Eye
Lucious opened his eyes once within the vortex. The walls were thick with layers of blue swirling clouds spiraling downwards endlessly. Although the wind could be heard at a distance, it was calm within the center. At the apex he could see a bright light, a miniature star in appearance that pulsated and spun simultaneously. To be within the vortex was to exist as one, becoming an entity of powerful light.
He looked for his brother, Jomo, who appeared to have become a crystallized form of light and whose body seemed to resonate as he traveled upward. He also transformed into a being of liquid light. Lucious become more coherent as he was pulled upward through space. As they continued to move forward, time became slower.

“Dianna, give some advice to new writers!”
“Debbie, my advice to writers is to practice writing as often as possible. Write about your thoughts, journal, and sketch ideas each day. This keeps you focused and your simple notes may just be the beginnings of an article or even a great book. Talk to people, listen and learn. I have found others have much to share about life and often lead to writing an article. If you have a passion to write, don’t give up. Keep the dream before you and take daily steps towards the goal. “
“Dianna, tell me about something personal about you.”
“Well Debbie, I am currently, I am teaching English Composition at a local college and my full-time schedule keeps me from writing as much as I would love at this time. I do enjoy inspiring students to write and to learn the joy of discovering how writing becomes an expression of who they are and lead to insightful wisdom. Even if my teaching hours doesn’t change, I am going to take time this fall to complete my book.”
“Dianna, tell me about your favorite bands, and or Music.”
“Debbie, my favorite band is Plum. I love her style of music. She has a unique voice and writes songs from other life experiences. She is very inspirational.”
“Dianna, what is your favorite thing in the world to do?”
“Well Debbie, as you can guess, my favorite thing to do is read. But that is second to spending time with my family. I have a great husband of 42 years now and I believe I am more in love with him today than when we first started.”
“Dianna, have you got to travel and if so what is your favorite place in the world?”
“Debbie, I have been in just about every state of the US and have lived in four of them. I loved Virginia for the mountains and the genuine people who live there. I would love to travel to Europe someday, but my favorite place in the world is just the simple home I live in — lots of comfort and love to keep me balanced.”
“Dianna, I know you write at the hub like I do, tell me what is your favorite Hub you have wrote about?”
“Debbie, my favorite hub post was the one True Love a Pearl of Great Price. This represents how I view life and wish that others would grasp from the reality of truly finding this love. I love writing articles, but someday I may attempt a poem. I love your poetry, Debbie, and find it very inspiring.”

“My blog site is at http://www.deesquietplace.com/ and I can be found on hub pages. Keep in mind that I have not written anything new on my blog for a while and hope to upgrade it before the end of the year. I plan on writing a hub article within the next week on the homeless. My husband and I work with those who are without a home and they have shared so much of their life and stories with us. People tend to look down upon them. They are the invisible people in our community. “

“Debbie, I forgot to mention that I was a preacher’s kid and from the start learned to read from the Bible. My dad believed in his kids getting a good education and pushed us to excel at school. He read all the time and he was the main influence in life for writing and for the development of my faith. My mom was the typical “June Cleaver” wife of the era, dedicated to my dad and ran the home. She was my role model of what a real woman is and taught laughter made the world a better place. Also, my life theme is Jeremiah 29:11. It is surprising how much this verse keeps me focused and gives me direction and hope.. Love and prayers.”
Dianna.

“Wow Dianna, what a great interview. Thank you so much for letting me interview. I have to say you are a great writer and I feel blessed reading your work. Please never stop and I can’t wait till your book hits the stands. Please make sure I get a link to the book..
