Wow, it is so nice to meet you, Susan and what an honor. I see you have a reading at the school… So much fun to be had. I love reading and speaking at the schools and I know your grandchildren are proud of you…

So on with the INTERVIEW!

“Susan, what are some of your favorite genres to read and to  write?”

“Debbie, my favorite genres have to be spiritual, uplifting poems about passed love-ones still being around and sending signs of comfort.”

“Susan, what is your inspiration with your writing?”

“Debbie, my inspiration comes from various sources. It depends on mood and times in my life. Sometimes a phrase or a word can spark off a poem. I tend to let the words find me rather than going in search of them. That way the poem is more natural and heartfelt.”

“Susan, are you a published author and if not do you plan on being?”

“Debbie, I am self published. I published a book of poems last year called ‘I See Rainbows.’ This Year I have written a children’s book and had it illustrated to a high standard entitled, ‘The Elf That Came To Visit.’It has proved extremely popular and I have been asked to visit local schools and libraries to read it to the children. As well as the books, I have also written scripts for Pantomimes, two so far and both are very popular.”

“Susan, what has been your greatest criticism?”

“Debbie, about myself? I don’t push myself enough. I should be sending my work off to publishers and taking the praise I receive. I have always been low in confidence and would hate to be knocked back. I would stop writing for a while and lick my wounds if this happened.”

“Susan, what has been your greatest compliment?”

“Debbie, my greatest compliment so far is being asked to share my work with people. This spurs me on. Being asked to go into local schools and read my own work to the children is amazing.”

“Susan, when you sit down to write do you do it the old-fashioned way with pen and paper or do you use a computer?”

“Debbie, I usually start on paper then transfer to computer. Sometimes I do just write straight to the computer, but it all depends on when or where I am when the inspiration hits me.”

“Susan, what do you do when you are not writing?”

“Debbie, when I am not writing I am a mother and a grandmother and I work as a teaching assistant in a primary school. I have four grandchildren who keep me very busy. Family means a lot to me and I like to keep them close.”

“Susan, compared to when you first started writing have you noticed any big changes in your writing style or how you write compared from then to now?”

“Debbie, I have seen many changes in my writing style. I have only been writing seriously for 3 years. When I look back to some of my early stuff I cringe. There were a few I am proud of but on the whole they were basic. I have improved an awful lot and I think it is because now I let the words find me.”

“Susan, what do you look for in a book when you sit down to read for fun?”

“Debbie, I love a heart warming story and I enjoy spiritual books about visiting Angels and also Rags to Riches tales.”

“Susan, what has been your favorite part about being a poetess and an author?”

“Debbie, the comments I receive when a poem has touched someone’s soul and brought them comfort are my favorites. If I can help at least one person and make them smile my job is done.”

“Susan, when you walk into a bookstore where do you head to first? Why?”

“Debbie, the Angel section. I lost my 9 yr old daughter to a brain tumor 11 years ago. Since then I get signs and smells. I like to read about others who have had the same kind of experience. My daughter had an out of body experience the year before she died so I read and compare other peoples’ stories.”

“Susan, did you get to quit your day job and become a writer and/or author, or do you still have a day job and writing is something you do for fun? If you still have a day job, what is it?”

“Debbie, I am a teaching assistant in a primary school. I recently mentioned this in another answer. Although I write for fun, I also write for a purpose. I have been able to transfer some of my writing skills into my day to day job. I have taught poetry lessons and I now help develop writing skills to those in school that need a boost. I judge myself lucky that I can write for my job.”

“Susan, what has been the strangest thing a reader has asked you?”

“Debbie, for me it is writing about dead pets. I don’t have any pets and find it difficult to project the empathy needed for this particular write.”

“Susan, besides writing and reading what is your most favorite thing to do?”

“Debbie, lunching with friends and having a general catch-up and laugh. It is a great release from my everyday busy life.”

“Susan, we all have our little things when it comes to reading. Is there anything that bugs you when you read a novel? What is it?”

“Debbie, a novel bugs me when it is confusing and doesn’t flow freely. Since becoming a writer I can tell when heart and soul has been put into a story or when a story has been written for the sake of it, without any real care taken.”

“Susan, what do you listen to when you write? Do you find one type of music over another that inspires you to write? Why?”

“Debbie, I enjoy music especially country and western. Sometimes a song will trigger a story or poem, other times it doesn’t. I enjoy easy listening and love songs too. I enjoy a song with a story, but I suppose that it the writer in me.”

“Susan, what genre are you looking forward to exploring during your writing career? Why?”

“Debbie, I have decided to continue writing children’s books. The response to ‘The Elf That Came To Visit’ has been tremendous. I have another book in the pipeline for later on in the year. It is called ‘In The Light Of The Moon’ and is about a little girl who wakes in the night to see her toys playing. I am using the same illustrator (Faith Nelson) who illustrated Elf.”

“Susan, what are you currently reading?”

“Debbie, nothing. I am busy getting Christmas ready and doing readings of my Elf book in various places.”

“Susan, who are your favorite authors?”

“Debbie, Catherine Cookson and Louisa M. Alcott.”

“Susan, what 7 words would you use to describe yourself?”

“Debbie, I am organized, determined, loving, motherly, friendly, hard working and a grandma.”

“Susan, have you done any videos? If so please send me the links to add to the interview.”

“Debbie, I have links to videos and narration in a host of various places; Youtube, Fandalism and Soundcloud. Most of mine I have tried to compile in one place which is Fandalism. I also have my own Youtube page and I am working on trying to upload most of my stuff on there this year. https://fandalism.com/susanworrall1 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yz0WqlXoU are the main places you will find my work.”

“Susan, thank you for the wonderful interview.  Is there anything else that you would like to share or say to those who will read this interview?”

“Debbie, thank you for all your support which has helped me continue and improve my writing.”

MY 2016

I’ve flown with the angels
Danced with the devil
Wallowed in pity
My souls been disheveled
I’ve loved and I’ve lost
I’ve triumphed and fell
I’ve visited Heaven
I’ve called into Hell
I’ve had a world of adventure
I’ve weathered the storms
I’ve laughed and I’ve cried
In every day dawned
I’ve reached many goals
Missed quite a few
Met many friends
Some old and some new
With a flick of a pen
I’ve conquered the world
What can I do next
As the new year unfurls

TOO LATE FOR FLOWERS

You stand there before her
With a tear in your eye
Clutching your flowers
As the world passes by
Undying love
Spills from your lips
As you caress her face
With your smooth fingertips
You smooth down her hair
Whisper her name
Beg her to stay
Shoulder the blame
But don’t you see
It’s too late now
You drifted too far
You don’t know how
You ignored her calls
You turned her away
She couldn’t cope anymore
With the games that you played
She doesn’t need your flowers
Or the tears in your eyes
It’s too late for them
She kissed the world goodbye

Christmas Spirit?

When you sit round your Christmas table
With a feast of a Christmas dinner
Pulling your crackers, telling your jokes
Watching your turkey grow thinner
Spare a thought and offer a thanks
For the child that was born years ago
Who sacrificed all of his life
To give us the Christmas we know

Who stole the spirit of Christmas
Who filled the world with pure greed
Who stole the meaning of Christmas
And replaced it with I want I need
For Christmas is far more than presents
And trinkets you place on a tree
Christmas is all about Jesus
Who gave up is life to save me

What The Dickens

As midnight strikes
Three ghosts appear
Christmas past
Christmas near
Christmas Eve
Some years from now
I don’t know why
I don’t know how
This night foretold
I don’t believe
The dead that lives
I can’t conceive

The ghost who’s first
Fond memories bring
Of a family party
In full swing
A time forgot
For many years
As I enjoy
Ghost two appears

With him a sadness
There he shows
No family friends
Just me alone
Behind closed doors
Hidden away
That’s where I’ll be
This Christmas day

Here’s ghost three
Dark and Grim
Frightening news
He brings with him
If I don’t change
My Evil ways
A lonely death
Will come my way

Midnight strikes
I stretch and yawn
The ghosts all gone
A new day dawns
I vow to change
Mend my ways
Embracing life
This Christmas day
