It’s my pleasure to introduce to you on Facebook, Carolee Samuda aka C. D. Samuda – Author.
“Welcome Carolee. It is so nice to meet you. Tell us a little bit about yourself.”
“Thank you, Debbie for this interview. I have concluded that there are two things in life I cannot live without. I cannot breathe without writing and the idea of never having cheesecake again is completely unthinkable. I was born in the sunny paradise of Jamaica as what we call a ‘country girl’ since a country person is from the rural areas, outside of the city. My passion for writing came through my love of books starting at a young tender age. My mom keeps reminding me that I started kindergarten before the acceptable age and was the youngest in my school. She said I loved books before I could form words properly. I can remember the first novels I read out of school. All I remember is ‘borrowing’ my sister’s novels and falling in love with the stories. That made me want to create these stories. The first author I remember actually falling in love with was Barbara Cartland, then I found Danielle Steele. When I was in high school I read every Mills & Boon and every Harlequin romance I could get my hands on. That’s when I knew I was going to be a romance author. However, discouragement from outside forces and life got in the way. I spent twenty something years pining away at the idea that maybe I’d never realize my dream.
In 2009 I started pursuing that dream. I quit my job. With no money and no way of earning a living, I started ghostwriting. In 2016 I quit ghostwriting and am now pursuing that life long dream full time. I have one regret and that is not having the courage to quit my job sooner. I love animals, plants, food, good music and my family. I have a love for Asian dramas, chocolate and a glass of good wine but cheesecake is my one weakness. That’s the only thing I hate sharing.”
*smile*
“Hello Carolee, this is such an honor to interview you. You are a wonderful accomplished Author and a wonderful Poetess. You are one of the busiest women I know and I want to thank you so much for letting me interview you. Tell us Carolee, what are some of your favorite genres to read and to write?”
“Debbie, I love reading crime thrillers, romantic suspense, political thrillers, historical fiction, paranormal and supernatural. My favorite genre to write used to be paranormal but I have developed a love for science fiction. I also love writing period stories but haven’t quite mastered it yet.”
“Carolee, what is your inspiration with your writing?”
“Debbie, I guess you could say my inspiration is the passion that I have for writing, the idea that I was meant to write and do nothing else. That alone inspires me.”
“Carolee, are you a published Author and if not do you plan on being a Author?
“Debbie, yes. I am self-published at the moment but have been speaking with a couple of traditional publishers.”
“Carolee, I see you are on Twitter and that is awesome!”
“Carolee, what has been your greatest criticism?”
“Ahhh Debbie, my editing skills…or lack thereof.”
“Carolee, what has been your greatest compliment?”
“Debbie, the greatest compliment came from an editor who read one of my stories and told me that my writing is exciting. Other readers have also told me that they like my style.”
“Carolee, well I have to agree. I have been attracted to your writing for years now. When you sit down to write, do you do it the old-fashioned way with pen and paper or do you use a computer?”
“Debbie, I use the old fashioned method if the power goes out. Other than that I do it on the computer.”
“Carolee, what do you do when you are not writing?”
“Debbie, I sleep, bathe or eat. I can’t think of anything else. The only times I’m not writing is when I go out to take care of things like shopping, paying bills or at the doctors. Other than that I’m home writing.”
“Carolee, compared to when you first started writing, have you noticed any big changes in your writing style or how you write compared from then to now?”
“Debbie, yes. I was thinking about this very thing recently. When I first started writing I was about 8 or 9 and my POV was all over the place. I’d write a story in first person and switch to third, then come back to first. Later, when I understood what point of view was, I wrote strictly in first person but later came to love third person omniscient.”
“Carolee, I understand perfectly when you talk about writing in first person and then third. I have to really watch myself. What do you look for in a book when you sit down to read for fun?”
“Debbie, I look for style, entertainment and emotional satisfaction. I want that when I start the book. The first page grabs my attention. If I continue reading I must feel that this book is taking me places and when I’m done I must be emotionally satisfied.”
“Carolee, what has been your favorite part about being a Poetess?”
“Debbie, expression. There is no greater feeling than expressing your emotions in this way.”
“Carolee, when you walk into a bookstore where do you head to first? Why?”
“Oh Debbie, it is the fiction section. I can’t help it.”
“Carolee, I see in your bio you quit your day job and become a writer and an author. Is writing a full time job for you or is it something you do for fun?”
n
“Debbie, I quit my job to ghostwrite and then quit ghostwriting to pursue my dream of being a full time author.”
“Carolee, what has been the strangest thing a reader has asked you?”
“Ha ha, Debbie. I haven’t been fortunate enough for that to happen yet. I am still waiting on weird questions from my readers.”
“Carolee, besides writing and reading, what is your most favorite thing to do?”
“Debbie, I love to sing, act, dance, do martial arts and cook.”
“Ahhh Carolee, I wish I could sing ha ha… but I do love to dance. We all have our little things when it comes to reading. Is there anything that bugs you when you read a novel? What is it?”
“Yes Debbie, plot holes. A stand alone should not leave unanswered questions. Readers don’t want to be perplexed about reading a book, especially if there’s no book two so writers should smooth out the plot before publishing.”
“I agree Carolee. What do you listen to when you write? Do you find one type of music over another that inspires you to write? Why?”
“Debbie, ha ha, Strauss and don’t laugh, the Candy Crush Jelly Saga OST. In case you’re not familiar with the Candy Crush, it’s a game.”
“Carolee, I am familar with Candy Crush. I have grandchildren…lol. What genre are you looking forward to exploring during your writing career? Why?”
“Debbie, I think I have four genres I want to make a name with: (1)Paranormal which is my favorite (2) Science fiction (3) Crime thrillers and (4) Political thrillers.”
“Carolee, what are you currently reading?”
“Debbie, it’s crazy. I have about three dozen books on my Kindle and about half of them I’ve already started on. But the one I want to complete first is ‘Icarus Rising’ by N. W. Moors.”
“Carolee, who are your favorite authors?”
“Debbie, my favorite authors are the following: Matthew Mather, Stephen King, John Grisham and Barbara Cartland. I just discovered Matthew as a sci-fi writer and he has me hooked.”
“Ahhh, wonderful authors you have chosen Carolee. What seven words would you use to describe yourself?”
“Debbie, I am determined, crazy, loyal, loving, headstrong, stubborn and passionate.”
“Carolee, I want to thank you for the wonderful interview. Is there anything else that you would like to share or say to those who will read this interview?”
“Yes Debbie, NEVER!!! Never give up on your dreams because regret is not an easy thing to live with.”

I am Phoenix!
Part 2 of the Phoenix
As my soul looks down at me in that moment…
Reincarnating into self
Stronger and stronger the ash revives
From a place of pain and sorrow
Violations and manipulations
Sank beneath the ash
Hidden self-worth
Somewhere in the midst an ember ignites
It burns with determined glow
Finding the strength on which to survive
Grasping for a log in which to light
Heartache and anguish took her first life
Somehow she rose again to thrive
Life then took another death blow
Again she sank into oblivion
Grasping and reaching she found a new grip
On life she tries to hold
Then again dreams are shattered
Life grows cold
Somewhere in the dust
Life is a must
That one ember ignites
To give her life … once more
As a Phoenix rises
Taking flight
And leaves the ash behind

Immortal Me Part of the Phoenix poem
I feel myself burn
The pain lasts but a second
Then bliss
Transported to a place
Where there was no more anguish or heartache
A place so peaceful and yet it doesn’t last
But a short time it does
I can feel the cocoon encasing me as I try to break free
And then poof… I did
Growth is fast as I re-incarnate into…me
Stronger than before, more powerful than before.
The first time was a long time ago
Where violations weakened me
Made me sink to depths of despair.
The burning as I burst into flames but only for a short time,
Then from the ash I rose
Then came life’s tribulations
Causing me much anguish and pain
More than I could bear
In the deep abyss I fell
Wanting to embrace the darkness
And the darkness to embrace me
Then again I again re-incarnate into me…
Stronger, more powerful than before

Incoherent Dreams
I dream of you
I dream of me
I dream of things I cannot seem to see
Crowds of people
Hanging and banging
Noises in my head
Tinkering and clanging
I dream of romance
Dream of being free
I dream of being in love on a second chance
Dream’s all jumbled
Distorted in my head
When I turn around
Another woman’s in my bed
Dreams of confusion
Incoherent dreams
Too many pieces seem like and illusion
Trying to “t them all
Together to make sense
As I awake from a dream
That’s so intense
