Meet the Amazing Author Joel J. Gerber

Meet Author Joel J. Gerber

Joel

I met Joel Gerber when I noticed his books on Facebook. I was really intrigued and decided I wanted his new book, “Dangerous Curves.” I wanted it signed and that started our friendship.

“Joel, it is so good to meet you. Tell me a little bit about yourself.”

“Debbie, I grew up in the small town of Hurricane, WV. I spent most of my life there and have made several friends. When I was five years old I began writing poetry. 31 years later, I find myself still writing poetry amongst other things as well as philosophy and novels. It would be hard for me to pick three of my favorite poems because each poem is different and they all hold special meaning.”

“Tell me Joel, what are some of your favorite genres to read and write?”

“Debbie, some of my favorite genres to write are inspirational, romance and friendship. I would like to think that perhaps my writing can bring some understanding to others so that would be a plus. When I was younger and didn’t know so much all I could write were about things I had seen. At that age I really didn’t understand what I was seeing all that well, because that was all I was doing…seeing. As I grew older though and matured so did my writing.”

“Joel, what is your inspiration with your writing?”

” Wow Debbie, this is a tough one. On the other hand it is a rather easy one. Life inspires me…What I see, what I hear.”

“Joel, are you a published Author? If not, do you plan on being published?”

“Debbie,  yes. I am a published Author. I have four books published. My book names are ‘Poetry From The Beat Of A Heart: In Words Combined To Make ‘The Art,’ ‘Dangerous Curves,’ ‘The Poetic Side Of Me Volume One,’ ‘The Journey Into A Poet’s Muse’  and the fifth book ‘On My Way To You’ is coming soon.”

Joel on my way to you

“ON MY WAY TO YOU” is coming soon!

“Wow Joel, that is so impressive. Tell us, what has been your greatest criticism?”

“Debbie, to be honest, I’m not really sure.”

” Oh okay Joel, what has been your greatest accomplishment?”

Debbie, I would have to say that my greatest accomplishments have been that I am living my life, doing the best I can with who I am and what I have.”

“Joel, when you sit down to write, do you do it the old-fashioned way with pen and paper or do you use a computer?”

“Debbie, I use a little of both. If I’m near a computer, I type but if not I write.”

“Joel, what do you do when you are not writing?”

“Debbie, when I’m not writing I’m either relaxing around the house, doing karaoke or hanging out with my fiancée.”

“Awesome. I love karaoke and my husband sings great. Joel, compared to when you first started writing, have you noticed any big changes in your writing style or how you write compared from then to now?”

“Yes Debbie, I have noticed a big change. This is going to seem odd but since I’ve matured, I’ve been able to put more of me into it in a way that not only means something to me, but also can give whomever reads it the chance to take something from it too.”

“I understand what you are saying, Joel. What do you look for in a book when you sit down to read for fun?”

“To be honest Debbie, I am into poetry a lot. I am a big fan of romance and happily everafters also. I would like to think that when I get to read a book the good ones win, etc. etc.”

“Joel, what has been your favorite part about being a writer?”

“Debbie, for the most part, as far as talent goes, writing has been my strong suit especially when it comes to poetry.”

“Yes, I understand what you mean Joel. When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head to first and why?”

“Debbie, I head straight to the counter to see if any of my friends’ books are there.”

“Joel, did you get to quit your day job and become a writer and/or author or do you still have a day job and writing is something you do for fun? If you still have a day job, what is it?”

“Debbie, writing is my day job basically. I have always written and it is just recently that I started publishing.”

“Joel, besides reading and writing, what is your most favorite thing to do?”

” Well Debbie, I love to spend time with my fiancée and sing karaoke.”

“Joel, we all have our little things when it comes to reading. Is there anything that bugs you when you read a novel? What is it?”

“Debbie, there isn’t anything I’ve noticed so far. I’ve just recently gotten back into reading since I’ve started publishing.”

“Joel, what do you listen to when you write? Do you find one type of music over another that inspires you to write? Why?”

“Debbie, I am more into the mellow kinds of music and the kinds that touch you. Not sure why, it’s just always been that way.”

“Joel, what genre are you looking forward to exploring during your writing career? Why?”

“Debbie, to be honest, this is a question that only time can tell. I never saw myself as an Author until I started writing philosophy and then my first novel. There is going to be a prequel and sequel to it as well. I write whatever inspires me to write.”

“Joel, what are you currently reading?”

“Debbie, at the moment I am waiting for a book to be in the mail and when it arrives I will be reading that.”

“Joel, who are your favorite authors?”

“Let’s see Debbie, R.L. Stine, Nicholas Sparks, Casey L. Bond and Rachael Brownell.”

“Joel, what seven  words would you use to describe yourself?”

“Debbie, I am down to earth, funny, intelligent, caring and romantic.”

“Joel…Thank you for the wonderful interview…Is there anything else that you would like to share or say to those who will read this interview?”

” Debbie, thank you for this interview and yes, there is something I would like to say to everyone who is reading this…There are things that may not be so easy, but never be afraid to try. You may surprise yourself in the process.”

Now enjoy three of his poems…

If Not, For You

This heart, it hurts
from where it has been
Hard to stay strong
will not feel that pain again.

I do not lose hope
where ever you are
I am right here waiting
for you, my shining star.

The star which will grant
my every wish or whim
Flowing together in lover’s notion
we shall swim.

Swimming this great divide
our hearts are entwined
Binding us by fate
our love designed.

An angel, may you be
the answer, when I pray
If you could hear
what this heart can say.

It would be broken
no way to make anew
would never show longing…
if not, for you.

My Truest Vessel

Trapped, is the love
flowing in my heart
If you chose me
that would be smart.

I would hold you
honor and obey
Bringing you happiness
which would stay.

My hopes lie within
this lonely soul
Having much love to give
beyond all control.

Held captive by the pain
many put me through
Still, I wait for someone
who will be true.

In hopes for the day
together we nestle
This heart it shall remain
my truest vessel.

I Give…My All

In times of silence
I shed a tear
Warm feeling knowing
You’ll be there.

Through each year
You’ve given me
Hope & compassion
That sets me free.

I look back
At all the years
With how I used to cower
By each of my fears.

Before you
I was not whole
You gave me love
You freed my soul.

In times of abandon
You stood there
Letting me know you love me
And how you’d always care.

With times of sorrow
You wiped away these tears
With you is where I spent
The most treasured of my years.

Tonight, with a pouring heart
I choose to get down on my knee
and pray that you’ll say yes
to sharing your life with me.

When troubles
Come your way
I’ll help bring light
into your day.

You’ve given me more
Then I could imagine
You’ve become so much more
Than my best friend.

I’ll wipe your teardrops
Before they fall
I give to you my heart
I give…my all.
