Interview with Christian Author Rasma Raisters

Rasma in the state park

I have the privilege of interviewing the great Christian Author Rasma Raister..
Rasma has been a great friend for over a year now. She has proven to be so loyal and sweet and a wonderful writer.
Rasma, tell me about yourself where were you born and explain the town etc. and where do you live now?”
Debbie, I was born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York. I loved it that my parents chose this area because we lived near the water and you could go walking by the water and look toward the tip of Manhattan in the distance. It was an area of shady streets and green parks and I preferred it to living among skyscrapers on the teeming streets of Manhattan. Back in 1994 I took my mom to her homeland Latvia and we settled down in Riga, Latvia. My mom was already in her 80s and she wanted to return home. As it was she got sick and only had two years to live in Riga and she died in March of 1996. I met my soul mate Martin here and that is why I stayed.

Rasma, tell me about your writing, why do you like it so much?”
Debbie, I’ve always enjoyed writing. It is a way for me to escape out of the real world, make up places I would like to be and share my feeling with others. I would walk around my high school with a notebook and pen writing love poems about all I felt. You could say that I inherited my love of writing because my dad Eriks Raisters was a popular Latvian poet and writer. When I was still a child around 8 or 9 years of age I wrote some short poems in Latvian. My most treasured possession is a book of children’s poem which my dad gave me when I was about 6.

Rasma, “where do you get your inspiration from?”
Debbie, Inspiration comes to me from various different sources, Sometimes nature and the beauty all about. Sometimes it comes from the changing of season, the weather and my emotions and feelings. Plus, a great source of inspiration is old, favorite songs which all bring back some kind of memories and they almost always inspire.

Rasma, tell me who inspires you, who are your favorite authors?”
Debbie, I have various favorite authors. From the classics Edgar Allen Poe. From romance – Danielle Steel. I love horror movies and novels so of course there is Stephen King.

Rasma, have you written any books? If you have, tell us all about it.”

Rasma, tell me about your writing style.”
Debbie, you could probably say that my writing style is free style because the way it all comes out on paper is the way I write. I never think of any specific styles I just let it all flow out however emotion and inspiration grabs me.

Rasma, Give some advice to new writers!”
Debbie, I would tell them, Think about what you would like to share with others and then just write. As you go along you can change things and you can learn from your experiences when people tell you how they enjoyed what you have written. Keep on writing and never give up.

Rasma, tell me about something personal about you.”

Debbie…I am a very emotional person and I always find something that is wonderful and great about this world. I would rather spend more time looking through rose colored glasses than facing the actual realities. However I do my share to help others when I can, I care about the problems the world and its people face, I sign as many petitions as I can and I dearly love all the animals this world has. I would love to see a world which had people living in harmony and there would be no violence or abuse just peace.

Rasma, Tell me about your favorite bands. Music,.
Debbie, there are Too many to list. I love the rock and roll music of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. Some music from the 90s but at this time they lost me in translation because I loved the old time rock and roll more. I also enjoy lots of country songs and of course songs by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and others in this style.

Rasma, “what is your favorite thing in the world to do?
Debbie, Now that’s a tough question. There quite a few things I especially enjoy but I guess if I had to tell you about one then I would say putting on my favorite music, lying down on the grass in the summertime and watching the clouds drift by. Nothing like it as it takes you to a completely different dimension.

Rasma, have you got to travel and if so what is your favorite place in the world?
Well Debbie, I Haven’t traveled enough to tell you about one favorite place but I could say that if I was to get back to the states I would want to live in Lake George, N.Y. The one place I have always loved in Europe and which I would like to visit again is Copenhagen, Denmark.

Rasma, What is your favorite Story or poem you have wrote about?

Debbie, if you mean which is my favorite poem that I have ever written that would be difficult to say. You see there are poems which I have written that when I read them over again I am surprised to realize that I wrote them simply because my emotions and thoughts at that time were different from the time I was rereading them.

Rasma, Do you like to write poems or stories best?
Debbie, I like to write poems best they just come easy to me.

Rasma tell me, what are your favorite thoughts?

Debbie, A favorite thought is to find a place where Martin, Sid (our adopted cat) and I could live out the rest of our days in peace and contentment and love.
Another thought is to live in a world of music and finally to be able to float on those fluffy white clouds in the sky.

Here are lists of Rasma links you can her on.
